Privacy Notice – Life Sciences Research Network Wales

Data that you share with the Life Sciences Research Network Wales, through subscribing to our mailing list, or registering for or attending one of our events. This is likely to include your name, email address, job title/role, place of work, and information about your research interests.

We may also collect data to allow us to monitor for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Data monitoring for this purpose will be anonymised.   

Data Controller

Cardiff University is considered the Data Controller of the personal data which you provide and as such is legally responsible for processing your personal data in accordance with data protection legislation.

The University is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to process personal data. Reg no Z6549747.

What personal data will we collect?

The Life Sciences Research Network Wales (LSRNW) will collect your name, email address, information about your institution or company, and any information about your position that you share with us.

How will your personal data be used?

These data will be used to contact you about LSRNW research opportunities and events.

What is the legal basis for processing your personal data? See guidance

Your personal data is being processed by us for the following reasons:

  1. Consent. By subscribing to our mailing list and selecting “agree”, or by otherwise informing the LSRNW that you wish to be contacted, for the purpose of LSRNW opportunities and events.
  2. Legitimate interests. The processing of your data is necessary for the LSRNW to perform its function as a National Research Network. The LSRNW exists to benefit researchers in Wales, as well as the broader Welsh economy and society at large.

Who has access to your personal data?

The manager and administrative staff of the LSRNW, the Board of Directors of the LSRNW, and any appropriate persons who may be involved in administering or delivering events.  

Who will your personal data be shared with outside of the University?

Your data may be shared with Welsh Government for the purposes of reporting. Some events may involve external contractors, facilitators, or speakers, who may require access to your information in order to carry out their duties. Your contact details may be shared with other researchers outside Cardiff in order to support networking and collaboration, however, you will be specifically asked for consent prior to your information being shared in this way.  

Is personal data transferred outside of the EU?

No.

How long will your personal data be held?

Your data will be held for as long as is necessary for the function of the LSRNW, including our reporting duties to our funders, unless we receive an erasure request from you.
